September 30th: Birthday of Andy Bechtolsheim, 10 Megabit Ethernet, and the 1-millionth system shipped by #SunMicrosystems.

Coincidence? I think not!

OTD 1990: #SunMicrosystems announces NeWSprint and SPARCprinter. Very cool, not very successful.

Ohh yeah if you are ever as lucky as me and have a SunBlade where the inner parts of the front panel are broken off, the screws on the inside that hold the big parts in place are great anchor point for neodymium magnets you can glue to the panel.

Drive bay front, some exposed screws can be used as anchor points for neodymium magnets. The inside of the grey front Panel two magnets have been super glued to the sides where they match up with the screws.

One OpenBoot Firmware update and two heart transplants later I brought it back to life, named it The-Piglet because it's dented front and color mismatch but still kinda cute lol...

A SunBlade 1000 workstation now with repaired front panel but still some visible gaps where the plastic is missing due the impact the workstation took. SCSI DVD drive is sticking out with is classic beige colour not matching the blueish grey tone. Thank you ebay sellers for being greedy. A picture of Solaris 10 in working order with a terminal displaying the two UltraSPARC III+ CU modules clocked at 900 MHz that gave the workstation it's new life.

And here is the culprit and murder victim, silent now, survived 25 years just to be murdered be an underpaid delivery worker...

UltraSPARC III CU CPU module, clocked at 600 MHz while there is no visible damage on it, bricks the system, was damaged due heavy impact of the package while delivery.

OTD 1985: #SunMicrosystems announces the Sun-3/1xx workstations based on the Motorola 68020 - true 32 bit computing. I loved those machines.

Made Sun a billion dollars before SPARC was ever released.

Well there goes my little dream, broken to pieces, and sadly not only the front panel is a goner but also motherboard is toast and wont recognize any USB keyboards any longer, not my original Sun or even a crummy Logitech....

#SunMicrosystems #Sun_Microsystems #SPARC #Unix #Solaris

Smashed internal front panel parts that are supposed to hold things together.Different view and a bit closer showing some chipped away edges as well.OpenBoot output informing of a missing keyboard, sadly in this case more showing the motherboard got damaged since a keyboard is indeed attached.
