Yesterday, the Secretary General paid a courtesy visit to Mr Nicolas Walder, State Councillor for the Department of Territory of the Canton of Geneva. Discussions focused on the Canton of Geneva’s Wetland City Accreditation and its contribution to the recent #STRP29 field visit.

At #STRP29, Secretary General Dr Musonda Mumba met with Dr Siobhan Fennessy and Dr Line Rochefort, two Women Changemakers in the World of Wetlands, whose work demonstrates the important contribution of women to wetland science, management and conservation.

Today at #STRP29 was GEO-Wetlands Day. The day highlighted the role of GEO-Wetlands, a collaborative partnership promoting the use of Earth observation to support wetland inventory, assessment, monitoring and conservation.

Scientists and experts participating in the 29th meeting of the Scientific and Technical Review Panel (#STRP29) took part in a field excursion to Lake Geneva, visiting Eaux-Vives Beach and Port Noir. The visit provided an opportunity to learn about water management and lake restoration.

On the margins of #STRP29, the Secretary General presented Dr Line Rochefort with her certificate of recognition as a Woman Changemaker in the World of Wetlands. Dr Rochefort is a full professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at Université Laval.

Following the signing of the MoU between JAXA and the Convention on Wetlands earlier this week, JAXA's ALOS-2 Forested Wetlands Inundation Mapping Project was presented during the #STRP29 brown bag session, providing an opportunity to learn more about the project and its newly released datasets.

At #STRP29, the Secretary General had a bilateral meeting with Mr Edward Samuriwo, Director of Environment at the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife. As the #COP15 Presidency, Zimbabwe plays an important role in supporting the implementation of the decisions agreed at the #WetlandsCOP15.
