I was talking with @upvotegreyhounds.bsky.social about #StreamlineModerne and thought of this.

It's a model for the "Zephyr Land-Yacht" (1936), design by Brooks Stevens (painted wood, aluminum, stainless steel, and wire). More in ALT.

This is a model ina very streamline moderne style of a long mobil-home attached to a smaller four-wheel automobile at right, which is meant to transport it. The trailer is black lacquer with a row of "windows" along the side, wheels at the back, and a door at its front to the right. It attaches to the rear of the automobile which has a dramatic teardrop shape like "cars of the future" from the 1930s. The accompanying museum card offers this information: "Designed for Milwaukee's millionaire playboy William Woods Plankinton Jr., this land zephyr boasted a luxurious interior, with the front compartment for the chauffeur, valet-chef, and various mechanicals, while the rear trailer included Plankinton's living quarters, which slept up to seven people! "Employing the popular language of streamlining, Stevens designed the Zephyr Land-Yacht to be forty-five feet in length and eleven tons."
