These last four days, the #StopTheClot community has been raising awareness about blood clots. On Sept 5, 2026, I had my second major clotting event. My bonus was an 18 hour hemorrhage.

Here are five things you should know about #APS aka #HughesSyndrome

1. APS is a rare autoimmune blood disorder. The odds of getting APS are 1 in 2,000. It is commonly seen in patients with autoimmune disease.

2. APS is characterized by recurring blood clots which are known as thromboses.

3. APS is the number one cause of stroke in young people.

4. 20% of large blood clots in veins are due to APS.

5. 70-95% of patients with APS are women.

Image of my ambulance transfer from my town hospital to a large Ottawa hospital because no one knew what APS is. 24 hours in ER. Two ERs. One ambulance. Close to 100 currant jelly clots.
