The study conducted a field experiment, using 13 winter #wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, explored how stomatal traits and #leafstructure contribute to differences in #ozone sensitivity among cultivars.

Heatmap analysis of O3 responsive traits in wheat cultivars. The heatmap illustrates the relative changes (%) of 13 winter wheat cultivars across 14 leaf traits under elevated ozone (E-O3) compared with ambient ozone (A-O3), calculated as (A-O3–E-O3)/A-O3 × 100. Rows represent cultivars, and columns represent individual traits, which are grouped into three functional categories: Anatomy (adaxial epidermis cell thickness, abaxial epidermis cell thickness, mesophyll tissue thickness, total leaf thickness), Physiology (leaf greenness, leaf dry mass, leaf area, LMA), and Stomatal traits [adaxial/abaxial stomatal density (SD), stomatal width (SW), and pore width (PW)]. Hierarchical clustering was applied to both cultivars and traits to visualize similarity patterns in O3 responsiveness. Negative values (blue) indicate trait increases under elevated O3, whereas positive values (red) denote reductions. Numbers inside each cell show the exact percentage change.
