This male Downy woodpecker was from yesterday's walk. There is a lot of #StickHappens in this shot, but I like the overall feel of it for some reason. #birds #Photography #Nature #WestSanGabrielRiverParkway

Seen a few twig-layers deep in this almost leafless tree sits a mostly black woodpecker. He has a few horizontal rows of white dots on his wings, and a white back between black shoulders. His head is turned and we can clearly see his left eye and just a bit of red crown in the shadows. He has a wide black eye stripe sandwiched in white. The bokeh is blue and green from the sky and trees in the distance.

What I ACTUALLY went out to get a photo of!

The Jay/Sharpie melee did NOT help any. 🤣

Sharpie took a run at Mr. Pileated, he was less than impressed and glided to another tree.

It's a big ole #StickHappens - but - this is only the 2nd Pileated in my "new" yard ever...so you take the shot! #birds
