NULL does not mean zero in SQL.
It means the value is unknown or missing, so = NULL will not filter it correctly. Use IS NULL or IS NOT NULL.
Understanding missing values prevents quiet errors in reports.

But I did finally manage to solve some backup quirks that have been bothering me for a couple of weeks with a 'NOT SIMILAR TO' clause.
