Caíño by Viña Moraima S. Coop. Galega (2022) - 3 ⭐
Cherry, wood, raspberries. Juicy, with lots of acidity — it strikes me as a summer wine. It's drinkable, but the rest of the bottle went into a reduction.

La Pavina by Bodegas Alta Pavina (2019) - 4 ⭐
Chorizo, red fruits, tobacco, deep violets, perfume, cherry. 24 months in French oak. Only 1500 bottles.
Hard to justify the price, but then again, I only had a splash during the tasting....

...Might be being charitable with the 3, but that’s what I wrote at the time.

Pago La Pavina by Bodegas Alta Pavina (2022) - 3 ⭐
A violent nose of balsamic and red fruits that feels like it’s intruding at first. Ripe strawberries, overripe plums. Something of a blunt instrument....

Citius by Bodegas Alta Pavina (2021) - 4 ⭐
Pepper, strong. Violets, prunes, black plums, vanilla, tobacco. A strong kick of red fruits and red currant, with some lavender. 40-year old vines, and they use old barrels so that the oak doesn’t overpower...

...It’s a wine to drink by itself when it’s hot outside. Not bad, but not exactly my style.

Pinot Noir Rosé by Bodegas Alta Pavina (2025) - 3 ⭐
Extremely light strawberries. A melon-colored, Provence-style rosé from young vines, only macerated for two hours. Manual harvest....

Pavina Verdejo by Bodegas Alta Pavina (2025) - 3½ ⭐
A bit of apricot, hay, soft pear, a hint of lemon, a slight salinity… and is that cream? Solid, but unlikely to become my go-to Verdejo.

...Feels and drinks much lighter than its 14.5%. I’d say 3.5 by itself, but 4 on value.

La Cirereta by Herència Altés (2024) - 4 ⭐
Raspberry, pepper, strawberries, violets, more pepper, plums. Nice acidity — it’ll make it rain in your mouth. The tastes lingers....

...One year in barrique but harvested in December. Made me think of a funky appassimento. Not Mrs. H cup of tea, though.

Bobo VT by Malandrin (2020) - 4½ ⭐
Dark as a wolf’s mouth and weird as fuck. Vegetables, prune, licorice; then on the palate chocolate, coffee and more licorice. Blood, after it’s aired....

Bobó Blanco by Malandrin (2020) - 4 ⭐
Golden. Mead, honey, spices, cider, almonds, orange peel, toasted caramel, crème brûlée, fennel, and something almost like dried apricot. A surprising acidity at the end. Oozes....
