This is Tennyson Lane where Lord Tennyson used to live. It leads to Blackdown. Beautiful trees and views line the lane.

Tennyson often used to walk up Blackdown, the highest point in the South Downs, to the Temple of the Winds, named after a Bronze Age circular earthwork where, because of the height, it was very windy.

Yesterday morning I walked up to Temple of the Winds on Blackdown. Here are 4 photos of the walk.

I have done this walk many times but it is very easy to take a wrong path. I was pleased to see that there were new signs along the way with serpents on to show the direction.A path on the route. The toposcope.
Once, on a very clear day, I saw the wind turbines in the sea near Worthing.
Places marked on here include Leith Hill, Reigate, Ashdown Forest, Lewes, Devil’s Dyke, Worthing and Arundel. It wasn’t possible to see to the very long distance as there was a haze but it looked beautiful and the low line of cloud added to the beauty.
I took this photo whilst sitting on a semi-circular stone seat under tree branches and looking at the view. In the middle is the mounted toposcope. Shadows are on the ground.

A few misty autumnal mornings this week producing a fantastic temperature inversion across the Adur valley & the Weald from Steyning Roundhill early on. Numbers of Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, House Martins & Swallows still passing through, & a couple of Wheatears too.

I took this photo on the way to the top of Blackdown, West Sussex.

Taken from a road leading to walks at Blackdown. The road is a hollow way with large trees lining it and the bottom of the trunks at my eye level. Between these two monster-like trees covered in moss is a long distance view across the Surrey Hills and South Downs.

A moody vista from my fictional village of Denham, just outside Lewes in the South Downs — the setting for my short stories and a place where appearances can be deceptive.

The shrub on Thundersbarrow Hill has been partially cleared, revealing the profile of the bank, the ditch and Thundersbarrow itself under the shrub.

How old is the barrow and how does it relate to the enclosure and the 'pond' to the south?

This house is a bargain!
It doesn’t have much of a back garden, which may put some people off, but it’s in a quiet village setting 50yds from the village pub (The #FlyingFish) and just a short walk to the #SouthDowns

Lots of Common Lizards out enjoying the warm sun lately.

Amazing range of colours, within a few miles I’ve seen a beautiful copper on the #SouthDowns, leafy green and mostly grey-browns like this one.
