V. Sattui Winery Rutherford Dust Up Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, Napa Valley, California It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Pretty nose of red and black fruits with oak, chocolates, spices, herbs and black pepper. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cherries, spices, light cedar, earth, herbs, chocolates, peppercorn and tobacco leaf. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This young Napa Cabernet from Rutherford is drinking beautifully already. Fruit forward and elegant, soft and smooth. Nicely balanced and complex, tangy and spicy. Very approachable right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours in the decanter. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 94 point wine. A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. Grapes were aged for 19 months in (60% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of only 3,144 bottles. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $185.

Colgin Cellars IX Estate 2004, Napa Valley, California #AgedWineTuesday Deep inky in color with a short reddish/ purplish rim. Strong nose and full bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. Showing black currants, black plums, blackberries, dried figs, dark chocolates, raisins, peppercorn, licorice, light earth, herbs, light tar, tobacco leaf and light barnyard. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 22 year old Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Rich and fruit forward, very complex and entertaining. A fantastic wine. Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to do so in the next 5 years. Wine Spectator 93 points. Wine Advocate 97 points. The high alcohol is well integrated by now. Elegant, and a great sipping wine. Paired beautifully with my delicious American Wagyu steak. A blend of 59% cabernet sauvignon, 22% merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. Unfiltered and unfined. 15.6% alcohol by volume. 95 points. $400.

La Jota Vineyard Howell Mountain Cabernet Franc 2019, Napa Valley, California Inky in color with a purplish rim. Pretty nose with lots of black fruits, chocolates and cedar notes. Full-bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, herbs, earth and black pepper. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and pomegranates. This is a delicious Cabernet Franc from Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. Rich and extracted, elegant and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with nice complexity, and a soft mouthfeel. Still young, and needs a few more years in the bottle to mature properly, but already very approachable. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Wine Enthusiasts 95 points. Robert Parker 93 points. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. Will pair nicely with Lamb dishes. 100% Cabernet Franc grapes were aged in (67% new) French Oak barrels for 21 months. Unfiltered and unfined. 14.1% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $135.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot from Pomerol. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and complex. Elegant, and nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Wine Spectator 92 points. This 10 year old Merlot is starting to drink at its peak now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in (33% new) French Oak barrels. 92 points. 15% alcohol by volume. $90.

Full-bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate and very fruity, with a beautiful nose. Showing black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, coffee, cedar, licorice, chocolates, light earth, herbs and pencil lead. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 5 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is starting to drink beautifully now. Spicy and entertaining. Still very young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years. Has good potential to become a 95+ point wine. This is the same wine that won the Judgment of Paris in 1976, 48 vintages later. This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is very rich, and 'in your face' kind of wine. Complex, opulent and elegant. Wine Enthusiasts 96 points. Robert Parker 95 points. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and also paired nicely with my steak frites. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French oak barrels for 21 months. 14.8% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $250.

Dry on the palate and very fruity with blackberries, cooked plums, figs, vanilla, licorice, cedar, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, light earth and peppercorn. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious 12 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Howell Mountain in Napa Valley. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward with a soft mouthfeel. complex and interesting. This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years. Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Another great wine from the hands of Philippe Melka. Good by itself, and will pair nicely with a big piece of steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French Oak barrels for 20 months. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $200.

Fruity nose of blue and black fruits with light cedar, earth, herbs, milk chocolates and black pepper. Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, blackberries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, spices, coffee, light earth, herbs, eucalyptus and tobacco leaf. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Merlot from Oakville in Napa valley. Nicely balanced and complex, soft and elegant. Still young, but already enjoyable even by itself. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine. Alcohol is nicely integrated already, smooth and engaging. I had the 2021 vintage not too long ago, and it is very consistent. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will also pair nicely with food. A blend of 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in (50% new) French Oak barrels. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $90.

Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1994, Pauillac, France #AgedWineTuesday Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with a beautiful nose. Showing black plums, black currants, cedar, dried figs, licorice, dark chocolates, earth, rhubarb, tobacco leaf, light black tea and black pepper. Long finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries. This 32 year old Pauillac is still drinking beautifully, but a bit past its prime. Rich and elegant. Very complex and spicy. This Second Growth Bordeaux needed 5 hours to open up properly, and was not that special right out of the bottle. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel, and still showing enough fruits to balance the earth notes. Robert Parker 91 points. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and with food. A blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot. 12.5% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $200.
