[3/3] The results showed the impact: Gen5 throughput increased by 127%, reaching 13,850 MiB/s, with CPU utilization dropping from 100% to 77%.

That wraps up three days at SDC '26. Thanks to SNIA and everyone who shared their work and conversations with us this week.

Using scatter/gather with offsets allows the data to be passed with the required alignments.

More from the SDC ’26 floor tomorrow. Stay tuned.

[1/3] Day 2 at #SNIA SDC ’26 is underway in Santa Clara, and our team has two more technical takeaways to share.

1. Memory tiering: Memory used to account for around 30% of the cost of a server. Now it accounts for more than 50%, yet most VMs never use half of the RAM allocated to them. πŸ‘‡

3. Even when you write data sequentially, and your filesystem aggregates to improve it further, the various driver and hardware layers can reorder things and result in access patterns that do not resemble sequential at the media.

More updates to come.

Archive room inside an abandoned SNIA textile factory, showing metal shelving units still filled with office records, ring binders, folders, and stacks of documents left behind after the site's closure. The shelves are overloaded and partially collapsed in the middle, where a large pile of rusted binders leans precariously outward, creating a striking visual focal point.
Many of the binders remain labeled and organized by color, with blue, green, red, white, and black spines visible along the upper shelves, while loose papers and files spill from lower compartments. The room bears clear signs of long-term neglect: the wall behind the shelving is stained by moisture and covered with patches of green mold and algae, while dust and dirt have accumulated on documents and furniture.
On the right, a large frosted industrial window filters warm natural light into the room, softly illuminating the archive and highlighting the textures of rusted metal, aging paper, and deteriorated plaster. The muted palette of gray, beige, green, and brown reinforces the atmosphere of abandonment.
The image preserves a rare glimpse of the administrative memory of a former textile plant, where decades of records and paperwork remain stored in place despite years of decay and disuse.

Interior of the abandoned offices of a former textile factory, showing a small administrative area in an advanced state of decay. The scene is dominated by a wall heavily damaged by moisture, covered with green mold, peeling paint, and stained plaster. Exposed cables hang from the ceiling, while damaged fluorescent light fixtures remain suspended overhead.
On the left, an open wooden door bears a blue office sign with Italian text, still partially readable despite age and wear. In the center, a small metal desk stands amid scattered debris, broken materials, and dust. Papers, folders, and a plastic bottle remain on its shelves, preserving traces of the office's former use. Behind the desk, a small interior service window connects to an adjacent room.
To the right, an old wall-mounted cabinet stands on a pedestal between two doorways. One doorway leads to another lit office space, while the other opens into a dark room where pieces of abandoned office equipment are still visible. The floor is littered with fragments of plaster, wood, and discarded furnishings.
Natural light entering from unseen windows highlights the contrast between the surviving office furniture and the extensive deterioration of the building. The image captures a workspace frozen in time, where the administrative functions of a former textile industry have long since ceased.
