Here is the male captive Serval (Leptailurus serval) looking out of his den at Marwell Zoo (September 2026). The serval is classed as Least Concern in the wild on the IUCN Red List with a stable population trend. This species is extant to Africa, and it can be crossed with the domestic cat to produce the hybrid Savannah Cat. The servals habitat in the wild includes grassland and savannah, where it hunts mainly rodents but also birds and arthropods.

House cat? no, this is an African wildcat! They live in Africa & in southwest and Central Asia. They're the wild ancestor of today’s domestic cats, weighing up to ~18 lbs. Unfortunately, hybridization with domestic cats is their biggest threat.
