@grandaha.bsky.socialLarry Graham didn't set out to invent slap bass — he was covering for a drummer who'd quit, thumping and plucking to fake a backbeat. That workaround became the lead voice of funk. Necessity, turned into the loudest idea in the room. #SlyAndTheFamilyStone #Funk #MusicArchaeology #MusicHistory
@grandaha.bsky.socialThose trading leads and overlapping call-and-response in Sly's band didn't come from funk — they came from the gospel quartet, straight out of church. The most radical thing about the Family Stone was how they democratized the microphone. #SlyAndTheFamilyStone #Funk #MusicArchaeology #MusicHistory
@grandaha.bsky.socialEveryone calls "There's a Riot Goin' On" Sly's burnout record. Listen closer: it's a demolition job. He dragged a drum machine into a home studio and dismantled the clean session-musician sound on purpose. The murk is the message. #SlyAndTheFamilyStone #Funk #MusicArchaeology #MusicHistory
