Happy #SkullSaturday ft the raccoon (Procyon lotor) 🦝! Northern raccoons are one of three Procyon species and live all through North America! Raccoons are rabies vectors along the entire East Coast and multiple states in the Midwest and Plains states!

This marvellous #skullsaturday is from the monument in Chichester Cathedral to Margaret Miller (died 1701) wife of Sir John Miller and two of their children. Other members of the family, including Sir John himself (died 1721) and his second wife Ann (died 1709) were later added to the inscription.

Black and white photo of a carving of a skull. On top of the skull is a small foot from a chubby cherub.

This relief is at St Mary's, Redbourn. It is the east face of a chest tomb to the Grimstead family and dates to the first half of the 18th century. The design is described as "an allegory on time and death." It includes a #skullsaturday and crossbones, serpent eating its tail and a winged hourglass.

Photo of the end of a chest tomb carved in white stone. At the bottom is a skull and crossbones rising out of the ground. Above that is a snake eating its own tail (an ouroboros representing infinity). Above that are clouds on which sits a winged hourglass representing time flying. The whole is set in a shield-like frame.A three-quarters on image of the chest tomb. The flat top of the tomb is cracked and missing a large piece. On the front are three panels, the central one for the text and the two either side with chubby cherub heads.

One for #SkullSaturday. This gravestone is for Mary Crouch who died in 1714 aged 54. This tombstone is in the churchyard of St Helen's, #Wheathampstead, #Hertfordshire. It has three skulls, bats wings and an hourglass. Normally hard to see as it is leaning forward. this photo was taken using flash.

A tombstone leaning forward. The text says "Here lyeth interred the body of Mary Crouch wife of Richard Crouch boeth of this parish who departed this life the 21st of Aug 1714 aged 54 years." The decoration consists of two skulls in side view looking left and right surmounted with bats wings which in turn have a third skull above them looking forward. On top of the last skull is an hourglass.

I saw this tombstone in the graveyard of Rochester Cathedral last Sunday. It has an excellent skull with an hour glass and bat wings, all common memento mori. The tomb is for the wife of John Wickers, ?Susann who died in 1729 and four of their children, Charles, Sarah and "two Roses". #skullsaturday

A tombstone with a curved top. The top contains carvings of a skull and cross bones with an hourglass on top and "bats wings". The text is below in the main panel in seven lines.
