This week, I read Verity by Colleen Hoover. It's a decent thriller, soon to come out in movie form. Not bad for a quick read!

This week's book was Still Life, by Sarah Winman. I was hesitant because I feel the WW2 era as a setting has been overdone, but I was happily surprised. Highly recommend!

Photo of the cover of the book Still Life, by Sarah Winman. It features a gold and blue mackaw with outstretched wings, a blue leafy border with yellow lemons and oranges. Though the settings are integral to the story, and lovingly rendered, they are a background for the wonderful characters. At first, the dialogue reads like a 40's noir movie. It's written without quotation marks and is central to how the story unfolds. You feel as though you are hearing the words spoken. The characters are human, flawed and I loved them all.
