How, in the 20 years between Uglies and Youngbloods, their dynamic does a 180° switch between who is the unhinged, impulsive, troubled one and who is her tether is such a beautiful full circle moment

ID: Tally and Shay, as Uglies, wearing their school uniforms, Shay the trousers, Tally the skirt, but dirty. Shay kneels in front of Tally and looks up to her in a somewhat unhinged but tender expression as Tally cradles her face. Shays hoverboard leans against her thighs, and she also wears a jacket and an equally tattered scarf while Tally wears the same things she was meant to wear in the City. Digital drawing.

ID: Same pose, but now they are about thirty-five, have short hair, more angular faces, are covered in tattoos and scars. This time, Tally kneels, with blood smeared over her face, her black tank top and cargo pants and her army knife, and looks up at Shay, who in turn looks down at her, as if to hold her back. Shay wears are futuristic armor that leaves her arms free, a harness with knifes, a belt with pockets and separate lower arms armor and fingerless gloves.
