Selkies, from my book Seas Of Strangehollow, the third in my Strangehollow world. You can find the books here: buff.ly/7krkipG

Unlike mermaids, which you will also find in both western and southern
seas, selkies prefer the cold waters of the kelp forests of the west. There
are no white sandy beaches here, just a coastline dotted with rocks, cliffs
and occasional dark sand beaches. The ocean is deeper here, and where
the kelp forests end there is an underwater cliff edge which gives way to
unfathomable depths. Great beasts loom in the deep, creatures from
stories which chill the blood in your veins.
The selkies of Strangehollow are not shapeshifters like those you may
have read about in old folk tales. They are not dissimilar to mermaids in
that their upper bodies, down to their hips, are...

It’s the #AutumnEquinox! A magical time of year, and also when the third #adventure in the #FabledBeast series is set. Storm Singing is filled with wild storms, #selkies, #mermaids and sea #monsters, all on the north coast of #Scotland… #kidlit #fantasy #FabledBeasts @discoverkelpies.bsky.social

A book lying on a wooden table. The cover is mostly blue and white, filled with swirling stormy waves, and a small boat rising up on a curved wave. The boat has the figure of a centaur standing in it, a human figure sitting in it, and a seal’s head surfacing beside it. At the top of the cover is the series title Fabled Beast Chronicles, just above the boat is the title Storm Singing and Other Tangled Tasks, and at the bottom of the cover image is the name Lari Don. Cover illustration is by Manuel Sumberac
