#31DaysOfGraves #ScottishGraveThoughts
Day9: Mysterious
This #Grave in St John's Church #Graveyard, #Nelson, Lancashire, is still a mystery, I haven't managed to figure out the lettering, nor the religious denomination, the brotherhood, or even the type of cross.

Thoughts anyone?

Day8: 1700-1799
St John's #Graveyard, #Marsden, opened 1849.

1700s #Pendle Valley was presided over by the Diocese Chester, 80m away.

Slowly evolving, the area was strongly nonconformist.

John Wesley, Benjamin Ingham and William Grimshaw all preached here.

Day7: Repaired

With the recent funding secured by The Friends of St John's Churchyard, #Nelson, our time-aged and damaged memorials in the #Graveyard will soon be repaired, making a peaceful and safe green space for generations to come.

Day6: Hourglass

In Area B, there are 398 infants and children interred whose hourglass was very short and Edna Chadwick, whose hourglass was very long, being 104 when she died in 2008.

Day5: Tidy
All #Graveyards fight nature to stay tidy; sometimes overgrowth of the nature we encourage for #Wildlife, sometimes the unruly weather.
Below, debris from a storm and two before and after pics.
St John's Church Graveyard, #Nelson, Lancashire.

Our call to arms flyer to locals for a graveyard tidy, text equesting volunteers to help us do a general graveyard tidy, over an image of the graveyard depicting an early spring scene looking towards Pendle Hill over graves surrounded by long yellowed grass and last years wildflowers gone to seed.A blue play tile, blown into the graveyard after a windy day from the houses nearby. It has fallen on flat unmarked grassy lawn, strewn with last years leaves. This area contains the the remains of many children who died during the numerous flu, diphtheria and meningitis outbreaks in the town in the late 19th century. After a graveyard tidy the graveyard is visible with organised aisles and rows of memorials. Before a graveyard tidy, the same area as the previous picture with a lot of overgrowth, bushes, high grass, buttercups and sorrel obscuring all but three memorials.

Day4: Heart

This one broke my heart, a lovely verdant oakling, enthusiastically reaching for the sky one day, the next this.
Since there isn't a nearby #Oak, I presume a squirrel nut stash was responsible it growing there.
#Grave maintenance.
