“No Quarter, No Return”

No one can beat the level 256 kill screen ghost. Art by me for October’s #SciFanSat theme of SPIRIT! Authors, 14 days remain until submissions are due on October 22nd. Full details at scifansat.com/landing.html!

#SFF #AmWritingScifi #AmWritingFantasy #WritingPrompts

A science-fantasy horror illustration of the level 256 kill screen ghost of urban arcade legend since 1980. It is a simple, 2-D cartoonish sheet-style ghost of 8-bit raster graphics and neon mazes brought to a phantasmal electron wireframe 4-D reality of purple video distortion. Its victims — and none skilled enough to unlock the level 256 glitch ever escape it — are said by some to compress inward into nothingness at its touch, starting with a scream from an impossibly widening mouth folding in upon itself.

He hasn’t noticed he’s been dead for six months. Unlike the others, I can see him working in his still vacant office.

“Hey Boss, I brought you coffee,” I say putting a cup on a dusty desk. “Let’s take a break.”

“There’s too much work.”

“No. No, there isn’t.”

A horror illustration from the distorted perspective of a wide-angle entrance camera. A family in creepy masks carry bloodied weapons, some sporting sanguine stains on themselves as well, while the father knocks with the tip of his baseball bat on the door.

🙏🏻 Jason, Kim, & Bartleby, for publishing “Rebel with a Hope.”

This “abduction” story has a special place in my heart, & it was submitted to #SciFanSat at 11:59pm—nothing like the last minute to spare!

I’m delighted everyone has the chance to read it.

I’d be pleased to know what you think of it.

So yeah, I somehow managed to find a few minutes (and it was really just a few) to translate one of my short shorts to English and submit to #SciFanSat, as I thought it fit particularly well this month's theme.

And it got accepted.

You may download it from https://scifansat.com

The cover of this month's SciFanSat magazine, featuring a redheaded girl with some reptilian charachteristics (scales, yellow eyes) looking straight at you.

“Draconic Sorceress”

The September #SciFanSat cover art I made for the new issue coming out this Saturday wasn’t designed with that role in mind. She started as a fantasy portrait crafted for fun, but then I took a shine to her punk-rebel vibe.

#SFF #AmWritingScifi #AmWritingFantasy

A fantasy illustration of a draconic sorceress. She has human and dragon ancestry, with scales on her neck and left shoulder/arm. Her features are largely human elsewhere, except for yellow draconic eyes and the red scales around them that match her hair, then dissipate into freckle-like markings on her face. She smiles wearing a dragon-themed headpiece and revealing top.

“Utopia has always been at war with Dystopia.”

“Always?”

“Always.”

“But if ideals are mutable, if indestructible, changing if not dying—”

“Utopia has ALWAYS been at war with Dystopia, Citizen. What you propose sounds like Dystopian doublethink...”

“Whatever happened to the Wunderkind?”

“The super boy from the future sent back to save it? He was actually an agent of a future global totalitarian regime, placed to ensure their fascist timeline is inevitable.”

“So, there is no hope.”

“No, there’s one: He rebelled.”
