Dear Listeners,

Today is a very special day for our community, as the Sakura Wars franchise approaches its 30th anniversary. We have no specials prepared for today, but I want to give some words for what this day means to me, and explain the origin of our fan project.

I picked up Sakura Wars at a low point in my life. I was ready to give up on my creative ambitions and leave the internet for good. A friend of mine was a huge fan of the series, and told me to burn a CD of Sakura Taisen for Sega Saturn.

At the time, my console was faulty and I almost stopped playing Saturn games entirely. Sakura Taisen opened a new world of visual storytelling, and I couldn’t stop playing through all Christmas break into the new year. It was the same magic that got me into SEGA games as a kid.

The soundtrack of the series, composed by Kohei Tanaka, gave me comfort in a time when everything seemed helpless, and allowed me to recover and move forward.

After a few months, I started testing internet radio hosting, and debuted RADIOSAKURA.LIVE on May 21st, 2025. I met Creative Direcor Noah soon after, and we began collaborating to make this project what it is today.

Since then, I’ve started my adult life in earnest, keeping all my personal commitments, and beginning an overdue gender transition. I am busier but happier now more than ever.

I created this project so that Sakura Wars can have the recognition it deserves outside its home country — for popularizing the multimedia aspect of anime/game series, and having such a personal impact on me to continue being creative and authentic to myself.

I hope that you enjoy the Sakura Wars series and our fan project, today and for many years to come.

Everyone has that one thing that brings them comfort, their escape from the world that’s their little happy place when things get too overwhelming, it’s good to have. Sakura Wars is that for me. (...)

To me the most resonant thing has always been the characters. They’re who we come back to again and again with this franchise, they’re the lens in which we experience it and what we take away from it, and Sakura Wars is the kind of series where every single character is somebody’s favorite, which I think is a sign of true brilliance. They even helped me discover things about myself I would have never known otherwise.

Sakura Shinguji as a character and Chisa Yokoyama’s wonderful performance have impacted me so thoroughly and significantly that I now consider Sakura my favorite fictional character of all time. Seeing so many traits I can immediately recognize and empathize with (...) She is the perfect protagonist for a series as optimistic as Sakura Wars. (...) She reminds me that, even if you think you are at your lowest point or you don’t know how to come to terms with yourself, there is always a way you can, always a way to be strong and show others your love.

Thank you Oji Hiroi for creating such a beautiful, positive franchise that continues to shine to this day. You have made a landmark on Japanese culture, you have impacted so many lives and you’ve inspired so many people, including myself. Thank you to the wonderful cast and crew of Sakura Wars for not only realizing this vision but also making it something truly unique to yourselves as well. The community you have created lives on to this day, and by working on Radio Sakura, I am so happy to be able to contribute in any way to the legacy of this franchise with my wonderful friend Elzi and our remarkably talented team.

I wish the best for this franchise and all involved in it (...) Oh, and I want a new anime please!!!!
