BAY STATE STONEWALL DEMOCRATS We Support the MNA Brigham Nurses Read our full statement.We stand proudly and in solidarity with the more than 4,000 union nurses of the Massachusetts Nurses Association at Brigham and Women's Hospital in their fight for a fair contract. These nurses are asking for what every worker deserves: staffing that keeps patients safe, health insurance they can afford, and wages that keep up with the cost of living. They do not want to strike. They want to be at the bedside. We call on Mass General Brigham to negotiate in good faith and do the work necessary to avert a strike. The labor movement and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights are one and the same, and that bond has deep roots. In the 1970s, when Teamsters in San Francisco were boycotting Coors beer, Harvey Milk organized the gay bars of the Castro to pull Coors from their taps, and in return the union agreed to hire openly gay drivers. Neither group won alone. They won by fighting together for their own rights and the rights of others. To the nurses of the Brigham: we thank you for carrying on the fight for all workers, and we stand shoulder to shoulder with you against corporations that leave everyday people behind.
