Knight at the Crossroad — many thanks to my friend in Fullerton, California for purchasing this wonderful art print of an iconic Russian historical masterpiece. Thrilled it’ll have a new home and help keep classic art alive: buff.ly/IrISUMy #RussianArt

Christ in the Wilderness — Ivan Kramskoi’s 1872 portrayal channels Christian empathy and profound pathos: Christ sits alone after a 40-day fast, brooding in a stark, windswept landscape. A landmark of Russian realism and psychological depth. buff.ly/yiJwbF0 #RussianArt

Knight at the Crossroads — a dark, haunting Viktor Vasnetsov painting evoking the Russian Age of Heroes. Brooding light, a lone rider at a three-way path, and rich folklore motifs channel 19th‑century national romanticism. See it: buff.ly/azREM1M #RussianArt

Bathing the Red Horse — a vivid 1912 canvas by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin from late-imperial Russia. Its striking crimson steed, unusual spherical perspective, and symbolic intensity helped make it an icon of early 20th-century Russian painting. buff.ly/vLlyLhF #RussianArt #PetrovVodkin

Eric Bulatov’s huge pieces on photos look as different from the real thing as Mark Rothko’s canvases. Just pictures without emotions. Thrilled to see this one at Zilart’s Ludwig collection exhibition. Vanishing dreams as clouds and everything else as blurred pines

«I trust him alone, he is special.»
The work is boldly executed for its time. Textured effects from a coarsely woven canvas are used, which likens the painting to a tapestry.
Another piece from ongoing wonderful exhibition of Borisov-Musatov in Tretyakov gallery

1913
Oil on canvas
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York

Painted in the Rayonist style, Cats portrays two black felines flanking a tabby. Natalia Goncharova created this work shortly after participating in the 1912 Blaue Reiter (Blue Rider) exhibition in Munich, where she announced her rejection of Western aesthetics and promoted Rayonism as an ostensibly "Russian" painting method.
Co-developed with her artistic and life partner, Mikhail Larionov, the movement eschewed figuration in favor of an analytical depiction of light.
Goncharova led an avant-garde faction that sought to innovate Russian art, while also incorporating aspects of folk imagery from across the vast empire in their work. In this luminous composition, she integrated Rayonism's darts and starbursts with the bright colors typical of folk art.
Goncharova explained, "to draw my artistic inspiration from my country and from the East, so close to us.... This will help me to express contemporaneity-its living beauty-better and more vividly.!"”

“Astonished, we sat before the painting and were silent for a long time. How good… God, how good! someone whispered quietly. And a broad stream of happiness flooded our hearts, as if there were no low-ceilinged studio, no rain outside the window”
Viktor Borisov-Musatov, the pond

One more artist from Zvantseva painting school exhibition in Moscow - Nikolai Kuzmin. Renaissance meeting modernism. Obvious student of Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. Lived a long live until 1980s, became famous for his book illustrations. Self-portrait, 1912

Sofia Dymshytz-Tolstaya, a student of Zvantseva painting school, as many, was captivated by French modernism, created this decorative nature-morte one year before Henri Matisse started to paint his own versions of Red Fishes. A little gem from Omsk

Great exhibition in Moscow Museum of Impressionism on Zvantseva paining school, similar to Académie Colarossi in Paris and Anton Azhbe school in Munich working at apprx. the same time. The leading teacher Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin developed his icon like color pattern during these years
