#RuinedPrioryFriday with Hore Abbey, just outside Cashel 🇮🇪
Just occasionally for #RuinedPrioryFriday we keep you on your toes with a ruined bishops palace, and Lamphey Bishops Palace, just outside of Pembrokeshire 🏴 was a great visit
#RuinedPrioryFriday with the beautiful Romanesque archways of Furness Abbey, Cumbria
We caught this along with many (many many) other ancient & medieval places around the UK, which you can catch here >>>

#RuinedPrioryFriday & a bit of a drive to get to this one, but had been on the list for the longest time
Cymer Abbey, Gwynedd 🏴
The Abbey was founded around 1179 by the cistercians & thrived in c13 with around 70 monks, but went into decline in c14
its very much worth a visit if you don't mind a bit of a drive & its free!
& Just the other side of these now-empty arches a couple of glimpses of the tiling on what would've been the chapter house
Returning to the arcading, its striking how the capitals are still present but any thin columns from below them appear to have long since been robbed
on the other side of the road would've been the altar, while this isn't really visible from the ground but a single column still stands
This plan of the site gives you a little more of an idea of the Abbey at its height
There's a road that runs right next to the site but as you can see from above, shockingly it actually drives right through what would have been the nave of the Abbey Church
One of the most striking survivors is its beautiful gothic arcading along what were the cloisters
So this is Croxden Abbey, it's in a pretty out of the way part of Staffordshire, though pretty close to Alton Towers if thats what you're into
Have been up all night editing, it's #RuinedPrioryFriday & I meant to post this last week, but ran out of time
Its Croxden Abbey, Staffordshire
When i've had a bit of sleep will turn this into a 🧵👇
