A joke bird for BOTD. Apologies to Alan. The goofy-looking giant bird monster from the movie "The Giant Claw". What happened was after the live footage was shot, they didn't have enough money left over to afford a first-rate monster maker. So they had to go with a monster maker who charged a lot less... And HE came up with this silly looking monster puppet... The audiences actually laughed when they saw this in the movie.

Red-winged Blackbird female and Band-tailed Pigeon, first at breakfast. Ident is tentative: I have a hard time telling Band-tailed Pigeons and Eurasian collared doves apart at this angle. The doves have more bulbous heads, though. Eurasian collared doves are also half the size of Band-tailed Pigeons but I can't tell that from here, without two together. Photographed 9 September 2026, northern Oregon coast. Fujifilm X-H1 Classic Chrome Fujinon 50-230mm lens, 1/150s, F/6.7 ISO 640.
