Such amazing decoration on this #Medieval portal.

The mixing of “Labours of the Month, “Signs of the Zodiac” with other #Romanesque decorative motifs.

Sainte-Croix, Bordeaux, France

A wonderful #Romanesque portal

The 19th Century architect, Paul Abadie, remodelled the west facade, but probably did not alter such great carvings

🙏 @horatioforever.bsky.social for such a wonderful first introduction to Bordeaux

#AdoorableThursday
#IronworkThursday

A series of half circular arches, each row carved with different details - zigzags, labours of the month, signs of the zodiac.

I was lucky enough to visit Verona recently, and San Zeno Maggiore was a highlight from the neighborhood I was staying in. A masterpiece of Italian Romanesque architecture, dating largely from the 11th–12th centuries.

Yep, that obligatory #AdoorableThursday door par excellence, perhaps the best - or at least wackiest - #Romanesque doorway on a parish church in England, it is, of course, Kilpeck, #Herefordshire - what beasts, what beakheads, what interlacing dragon snails!

Yes, Ashwater church was fascinating - not just for the #Romanesque font, but also for the wood carving by John Northcott of Ashwater.

We need to return to explore the churches of the Devon/Cornwall border, to include Clawton.

I grew up further south in Plymouth.
