the Rhythm Masters Takeover is now over. since then, ive spent the past 17 hours crying, breaking things, howling into the sky like a coyote that broke both its hind legs, and furiously sending thousands of emails and messages to every SiIvaGunner account demanding that they extend the takeover by 100 days and releasing HCRP Side C and D. ill share my detailed thoughts on the entire thing soon, when i finish making art commemorating it. but for now i wanted to share a theory i came up with just a few hours ago, starting with this question: Did Hakuko and Don-chan even KNOW that the takeover happened, or that HCRP was broadcasted onto the channel? this answer to this might sound obvious; of course they did, right? but think about it: Robbie's Rip-O-Matic said it opened a "viewport" into AIRTH, and thats how we got the takeover and HCRP. but it seemingly did this purely on its own accord. there's nothing telling us that the rhythm masters themselves had any input on this. and if we assume its "viewport" was just that, a one-way window into their world, then they COULDNT have had any input on what was coming through, nor have any way of knowing about it in the first place. so it's very possible they just never knew that their music was reaching people outside of their own dimensionthis could also explain why Hakuko sounded so surprised by the amount of rips they got in the first community post. because that original announcement to submit rips was only meant for the residents of AIRTH. and since realistically only a small number of them could or would want to make rips due to the current conditions of that world, then the majority of the submitted rips had to have been from people in the real world, causing the unexpected influx and this even explains why there were so few community posts!! which even though i LOVED the takeover was one of my biggest critiques about it!! (hell if there hadnt been a delay in Side B then we wouldve only gotten ONE in-character post during the whole event lol) they literally had no idea they took over the channel to begin with! they never said goodbye or announced they'd be returning the channel to Robbie, because the end of the takeover marked the point when the viewport closed!! and they were none the wiser!! the one thing that disappointed me about the Rhythm Masters Takeover was that there wasnt any storyline or lore for it. Hakuko & Don-chan felt far more "hands-off" as hosts then i wouldve liked (perhaps i just got excited about seeing my fave characters again and got my hopes up too high). but, if my theory is correct... then theres actually a reason for that. the lack of storyline and lore actually has an in-universe explanation. holy macaroni dude.

wrote a big ol' blog on my tumblr about a side of hakuko's KFAD characterization i feel like doesnt get talked about enough (probably because it wasnt intended and its all just headcanon lol): her low self-esteem and constant need to be perfect

its only really alluded to in the kfad mojo but based on some of her dialogue there i always saw Hakuko as someone who puts a lot of pressure on herself to be perfect. "...I have no excuses now if I don't hit a Perfect!" is subtle but its the best example of my point i see Hakuko as the type of person who sets a lot of unrealistic expectations for herself to be perfect at everything she does. because shes internalized that her self-worth is measured purely by her accomplishments. and if she falls short, if she misses even a single beat, if she isnt perfect, then she isnt worth anything at all. she puts out so much love for the world and her friends, but leaves very little love for herself she has a lot of different talents and interests (music, dancing, fashion, etc.), and she genuinely enjoys them. but the thing that prevents her from fully enjoying any of them is this constant, nagging desire to push herself to be perfect at themshe went into King For Another Day the same way, thinking she was going to win flawlessly. not just because she genuinely wanted to, but because she felt she had to. she kinda glosses over it in her interview after the fact, but if she needed an entire crowd of monkeys to come cheer her up after her first loss, i imagine she must've taken it pretty hard, just as if not worse than Don-Chan did but in the end, the whole tournament was her wake-up call. through having Don-chan by her side, meeting so many other talented contestants, and eventually being eliminated, she realized how silly she was being. her chat with Jack near the end of the tournament shows her growth even if she didnt win, she came incredibly close both times she lost. and there were countless fans out there who were rooting for her, and were proud of her and Don-chan despite being voted out. sometimes even when you do everything right and you hit every beat, you just cant be perfect. but you also dont have to be. in her own words, an OK is not a Superb, but it's not a Try Again either. anyway just felt like writing about my wife and her character arc since the Rhythm Masters takeover is very soon. like i said though most of this isnt really touched upon in any of Hakuko's appearances in the mojo. i dont blame the SG team though, the mojo had a lot going on and a lot to keep up with. if im being honest most of this is probably just in my head lol. hope you enjoyed nontheless
