When Rey opens her eyes, she’s greeted by the soft morning light filtering in through her thin curtains, which colours the room dusky pink. Birds titter sporadically in the mountain ash tree outside her window, her clock ticks soothingly in the corner, and there’s a man lying next to her. She sits bolt upright and then scrambles off her bed with an ear-piercing scream. She grabs the baseball bat she keeps behind her bedroom door and aims it at the intruder but quickly realizes it may not do her any good. He’s hardly a human man at all. He’s tall, burly, and alarmingly handsome for…whatever he is. His eyes are a red so bright they seem to glow, and he has viciously sharp horns growing out of the sides of his head. “What the fuck?!” Rey yells. The bat quakes in her grip. “Good morning,” he says with a feline smile. “Who the fuck—What are you—WHY ARE YOU IN MY BED?!” The man shrugs. The corners of his full lips pull up in amusement. “I see you’re concerned,” he says simply. “OBVIOUSLY! EXPLAIN!” He stands to his full, intimidating height and Rey realizes he’s wearing clothes typical of early 1900s fashion. His wavy hair is so dark it seems to absorb light. It just keeps getting more bizarre… “I was just here to fill in for a buddy. You know him—your sleep paralysis demon? Protocol says I should be gone by now, but…Well, you were just so lonely in your nightmares. It was delicious, and I’m willing to bet you are, too. Care to indulge me, Rey?”

Ben Solo—known to the outside world as Kylo Ren, CEO of Dyad Energetics—hasn’t left his Chandrila estate in over a decade. On the advice of his therapist (sort of), he hires a young woman for companionship, though he’s braced for her to quit and run away the instant she sees his face. Instead, two lonely souls find kinship, belonging, and the opportunity to heal together. If only their arrangement didn’t involve an eighty-page contract, a six-figure salary, and a potential expiration date....
