This Shattered Tempest is SO SO ANGSTY. Oh my god. Talasyn just found what was taken from Nenevar at the end of the first book. She thinks everything has been and act. Oh god honey no. I’m screaming. This book is going to destroy me. #ThisShatteredTempest #Booksky #TheHurricaneWars #Reylo

This song was inspired by queer love — Malinda wrote it after she learned the story of Kathleen Lynn and Madeleine ffrench Mullen, two women in the Irish Independence movement — but it is at its simplest heart a love song, and to me, the #Reylo potential cannot be overstated.

Maybe if the little Palpatine Princess had ever had a friend—or anyone to care for her for reasons other than for pay—she wouldn’t’ve bonded so strongly with the squire the Emperor kept as hostage to Alderaan’s behavior.

But she hadn’t.

So it was she grew up hand-in-hand with a Lost Prince.

Luke spoke of the Force as a wave, cresting, ebbing.

For Rey it’s a melody.

On Kef Bir, she reaches deep into the ocean, searches, lets the Forces’s discordant notes fade.

Finally, she finds—deep in the sea—the holt of a cross-bladed lightsaber—calls it.

One more step towards finding Ben.

The remembered pain is debilitating.

“You did what you had to.”

She’d never wanted to leave him.

“It’s what came after that’s upsetting—using the Force to erase me from your mind?”

A move of desperation.

“How’d you think that would work? Truly? As a magic potion letting you forget me?”

The man behind thick glass watching her must be her husband; though if she didn't know better she'd guess him an older (scarred) twin.

Space ages you, especially if you spend a decade there.

"Just a precaution," he tells her, "to kill anything might have tried hitching a ride back with me."

#Reylo
Some might call them nightmares, but Rey knows them to be the sweet dreams of a quest completed and victories won.

With one solo, singular, heartbreaking exception.

For she remembers lying on rocky ground, clutching a man too weak to rise, the warmth of his mouth still on hers.

This man.

As wispy as a candle's flame and as delicate, the memories flicker, ebbing in strong waves before cresting weakly.

Impossible to ignore.

Memories of another time and most especially of another place - of a prince lost and an island found, of loneliness and grief.

Of a boy and of a girl.
