Roberts literally authored the ruling that made the president a de facto king, above basically all criminal law.

While of course all those other rulings are abysmal and destructive to our country I can’t think of anything that does more to destroy the basic principles of democracy than an executive who can order crimes committed on his behalf and then pardon the offenders.

Not even impeachment solves this because the president can order the DOJ to arrest or even kill members of congress and would be immune for doing so. (As per Roberts’ ruling directing DOJ officials to conduct illegal investigations into his enemies is conduct he is immune for so I see no coherent logic that would not extend to other illegal uses of law enforcement functions)

Trump never was the bigger problem, he’s a symptom of it.

Society has a very divisive view on insatiable greed. We all say we hate it, but our actions prove otherwise. The majority either hate it or don’t care and can’t be bothered. Then there are a significant amount of people who oddly admire it. They miss the message in popular films like Wall Street, Wolf of Wall Street, and American Psycho to a degree. They miss the point of being cautionary tales and more see them as anthems.

This admiration of greed exists in all demographics. Rich, poor, male, female, young, old, and every race that exists.

Donald Trump has been the poster boy of greed for 40-50 years.

It isn't just the GOP.

~60% of americans can't read at a 6th grade level. Americans are ignorant, entitled and reactionary. This isn't isolated to one party. A horrific amount of americans are racist, and this also isn't limited to one party nor is it just white people hating minorities.

There's a lot of left wing americans who happily crow "USA USA USA USA" genuinely thinking it's the best country in the world and that no one else can do any better.

I have had americans who have never left their state attempt to condescend and lecture me about how my country is ignorant, backwater and racist, with zero understanding of the cultural differences between us.

It isn't just the GOP. It is all of america.

The media knows their audience and most people (especially right wingers and centrists) are loyal to people and labels, not actual underlying ideals. So showing the depravity of R politicians doesn't "wake up" those people, it loses the network viewers.

And since companies have a fiscal responsibility to their shareholders and not any responsibility for the consumer, they do what they can to maintain eyeballs.

So they've got to maintain this middle-of-the-road narrative because people don't actually want the truth
