A surreal horror image centers on a pale porcelain doll emerging from an oversized ceramic teacup during a driving rainstorm. The doll has an unnaturally delicate, expressionless face contrasted by enormous protruding blue-green eyes rimmed in raw red and dark makeup. Thin strands of wet black hair hang around her face, and a ruffled white Victorian-style collar rises behind the cup. Above her head sits a large, battered ceramic lid like an absurd hat. Its white surface is smeared and dripping with vivid red liquid. A dark red lobster crouches across the top with its claws raised toward a small reddish bird standing opposite it, their confrontation frozen amid splashing rain and scattered debris. Thick red drops descend from the lid on either side of the doll's face. Below, the weathered white teacup is filled with dark liquid and prominently bears the distressed red words “THE RAIN IN TEACUP.” It rests on a stained saucer beside a metal spoon. Rain streaks diagonally through the cold gray background, while sharp whites, black shadows, icy blue eyes, and intense crimson create a grotesque, highly detailed portrait.
