#pyromorphite wins with me #mincup26

@bkania.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 11:33 PM

I am accepting bribes KIDDING😄 I have neither of these in my #mineral collection I would like to have both. Sorry #Pyromorphite, #Graphite received my #Vote for this last quarter final. The very persuasive #Muse got to me. #MinCup26
Hurry & get those last 20 minute votes in @mineralcup.bsky.social

hummm... I really hope that #pyromorphite gets through to the semis - cuprite, quartz and halite (all through so far) are all on the boring structure side. (on the plus point perhaps I get get my 6-year old niece to help me make models of them all) #MinCup26

Have shifted timezones so a little out of sorts - but looks like a tight one in the last #MinCup26 Quarterfinal. #Pyromorphite vividness comes from its phosphorus atoms, I love how they tuck into the crystal structure. That gets my vote today over boring #Graphite.

Image representing the crystal structure of pyromorphite - here red spheres represent oxygen atoms, grey spheres/polygons represent lead atoms, purple spheres/polygons represent phosphorus atoms and green spheres represent calcium atoms. The representation is drawn in VESTA from entry #5226 in the American mineralogist databaseImage representing the crystal structure of graphite with brown spheres representing carbon atoms. The structure is made up of layers of carbon atoms where the carbon atoms make hexagon rings. The structure is drawn in VESTA from entry #49 in the American mineralogist database

"The fungus Paecilomyces javanicus, particularly in combination with phosphate-rich bird poop, can clean up lead-contaminated soils by locking up metallic lead as pyromorphite."

I'm sorry, but graphite (or graphene) has NOTHING on this use. Lead removal is the defining factor for me - #pyromorphite

@warriorchicken.meSep 28, 2026, 5:19 PM

This one was hard for me, and at the moment I voted, I tipped for lead remediation. So #pyromorphite got my vote, despite my debt of gratitude to graphite for so many things

@tkirkm.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 10:03 AM

I'm voting #Pyromorphite today, because of the fact that it is a stable lead mineral that is the product of fungi, bird poop and lead-contaminated soil! Vote for heavy metal remediation!

I did however find my own #pyromorphite sample - but had to go all the way to Drygill in Cumbria to find it.

#MinCup26 Quarterfinal 4
We're coming down the end! Are you supporting lead-locking #pyromorphite or ancient #graphite as we enter the semifinals.

Split view of blobby peach-tinted pyromorphite shining as though wet, and dark grey graphite with its signature greasy sheen sitting on paper marked with pencil-like scribbles.

I have an apatite for minerals

#MinCup26 The fact that #pyromorphite can lock up lead (Pb) has earned a vote from me. Wish we never put lead in gasoline or paint (what were we thinking?!).

It looks like a green sea urchin and can clean up lead-contaminated soils? No contest, I'm afraid: vote #Pyromorphite in today's #MinCup26

@eos.orgSep 22, 2026, 4:59 PM

Another #MinCup26 matchup, another contender that looks like a mineralized version of a marine creature.

This time it’s #pyromorphite that gets our vote with an admirable impression of a spiny sea urchin.

The child is playing Oz in the school production of The Wizard of Oz so it has to be #Pyromorphite. #MinCup
