Just before dawn in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, on the Pacific coast, for #MeerMittwoch this week. This was taken earlier this year. We don't often get up at this time of the morning but we had a full day of plans ashore.

It's just before dawn and we're in a harbour looking out across the water and past some breakwaters and piers to the open ocean. There's not a breath of wind and the sea is practically flat. The sun hasn't risen above the horizon but when it does it will be to the left of where we're looking as the sky is a brighter, warm, pale yellow-orange fading to a less vibrant, darker orange-brown on the right. Scattered lines of small clouds form flat grey silhouettes against the orange tones except in the far distance above the horizon where they blanket the sky. A few small cranes and buildings are on the breakwater to the left with some lights along the structure's edges reflecting in long, straight, stippled lines across the water's surface towards us. A pilot boat is heading our between the breakwaters alongside a vessel, possibly a trawler of some kind. Out to sea there are a dozen other ships, mostly container vessels at anchor, awaiting their turn to enter the port and offload, most likely. It's very quiet, very peaceful, and with a cool early morning warmth that promises deeper heat in the day to come.
