The south side of Proposal Rock at Neskowin on the Oregon Coast shows layers of basaltic and sedimentary rocks in tones of tan, blackish red, and orangish brown. Some of the layers on the left side jut upwards, at about an 80-85 degree angle, while other layers intersect these layers near the top of the picture closer to horizontal. These wildly different angles indicate some crazy violent geological upheaval and volcanic activity, which makes sense because of its location along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, which we need to be aware of… for “The Big One”. And somehow, I just love going to the Oregon Coast and any minute… I can’t think about it right now. But the rocks clearly have a cautionary tale to tell.
