"Death Knell"

(Knell: To ring a bell slowly & solemnly for a funeral, death, or a disaster (which I'm sure these #bells on the tiny, colourful island of #Procida #Campania, #Italy 🇮🇹 have done over the centuries–even if not during my visit).

#Photography 📷 #Travel ✈️

This daylight photograph captures a narrow street scene on the historic island of Procida, Italy, showcasing weathered Mediterranean architecture and a distant church dome under a clear, light blue sky.

The upper-central portion of the frame features a white, weathered stucco bell tower built into a wall structure. It contains two distinct arched openings:

The left arch houses a dark bronze bell.

The right arch houses a patinated green bell. The arches are painted with a reddish-orange accent on their interior curves. A small cross sits atop the roofline to the right of the bells.

Foreground Building: A multi-level, aged white stucco structure dominates the left and centre foreground. The walls show significant signs of weathering, dark staining from moisture, and peeling plaster, revealing a rustic, centuries-old texture.

Distant Dome: In the lower right background, a prominent bright yellow/gold dome (cupola) rises above the street, belonging to a neighbouring church. It is illuminated by warm sunlight, contrasting against the muted tones of the foreground buildings.

Composition & Viewpoint Perspective: The image is taken from a low angle looking slightly upward, emphasising the height of the walls and the bell tower.

The Street: A narrow street or alleyway recedes into the background on the right side, framed by the walls of the buildings. A streetlamp on a black metal bracket extends from the wall on the right.
