Here, @excelguru.ca explains the types of blanks that can show up in #PivotTables built from the #DataModel. 🙃 If you work with #Excel PivotTables, #PowerPivot, #DAX, or #PowerQuery, this will help you understand where blanks come from and how to deal with them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnVU...

A question sent in for our recent 'Ask Ken Anything' (AKA) session tackled a common reporting headache: how do you compare hours logged in a project management system against data from time-tracking software? 🕒
@excelguru.ca walked through a solution he built using #PowerQuery and #PowerPivot. 🧵

Turning Durations Into Hours
A student asked how to compare hours logged in a project management system against data from time-tracking software. Ken Puls’ solution used Power Query to clean and transform the data from both sources into a common data type, which could then be more easily compared!
(Screenshot of the Power Query Editor displaying the initial time tracker data in the Screen Time columns as miniscule decimals. The Transform > Duration > Total Hours options from the ribbon are highlighted, which then displays the converted values in Screen Time column.)

In this new video, I show the different types of blanks that can show up in #PivotTables built from the #DataModel. 🙃 If you work with #Excel PivotTables, #PowerPivot, #DAX measures, or #PowerQuery, this will help you understand where blanks come from and how to deal with them: youtu.be/fnVUJmHUTwc

During an AKA call, an attendee brought a stubborn #PowerPivot problem: how do you show a single “Total Units” column in your #PivotTable, but show forecasts monthly without either duplicating a #DAX measure every single month, or ending up with a wall of blank columns that have to be hidden? 🧵

How do you show forecasts monthly without duplicating a DAX measure every single month, or ending up with extra blank columns to hide?
Ken Puls’ fix involved two synced PivotTables and a dynamic array HSTACK formula!
(Screenshot of a PivotTable with columns labelled End of Month, Sold, Forecast columns for 4 months, and Grand Total. A highlight over the Sold column says, “Show as total” and a highlight over the Forecast columns says, “Show Forecast by Month”)
