Same! @christinezhang.bsky.social 's keynote was so interesting! I enjoyed learning about how and why the NY Times makes some of their election dataviz choices.
[Video of that talk should be available free on YouTube in December for those who don't have access to the #PositConf2026 recordings now]

@jonthegeek.comSep 22, 2026, 10:46 AM

I've had some helpful/hopeful replies in this thread (eg bsky.app/profile/hadl...). I also finally read this blog by @hadley.nz substack.com/home/post/p-... , and I wish he'd done part 1 of that talk one more time at #PositConf2026! It would've helped to offset some of the other AI.

I think there absolutely is still a place for codecraft within the #rstats community! I'm still processing everything I experienced at #PositConf2026 and #risw2026 , but it's more important than ever we build trustworthy and reliable code even if LLMs run them as much as we do.

@jonthegeek.comSep 21, 2026, 12:40 AM

This feeling got way worse at #PositConf2026. PRs I opened at #PositConf2025 were still open. A keynote had "I don't write code anymore" as the (triumphant?) takeaway. The most famous R programmer had a talk about a thing he vibe coded in Rust.

So, now that I’m spending more time on Bluesky, and #positconf2026 is over… I have to ask… who is the resident #rstats memelord? And whatever happened to @rstats-sky.bsky.social and friends?

@frankiethull.bsky.socialSep 18, 2026, 1:38 AM

#positconf2026 was so much fun! i got to meet so many people IRL & everyone was so cool. 🥲

@mikeksmith.bsky.socialSep 17, 2026, 11:40 PM

In the intro video before the first Keynote on Day 1 of #positconf2026, one of the featured data scientists (and musician) talked about getting code working being like making something really cool in Ableton Live…

Coming down from the #PositConf2026 high hosted by @posit.co! Great couple of days with awesome people and a reminder that AI still depends on humans. My takeaway: talk to the humans first, and build with integrity. Nothing beats the big hair 80s pic tho. #datascience #rstats

Well that was easy to find. This was at the Half Price Books Westheimer.

HTX #positconf2026, you were lovely.

In a world that is largely online, in a time where most of our convos are with AI agents - it’s moments like these that remind us how important it is to talk, connect & empathize with other people.

We are all figuring it out as we go. We are all in it together.

Quarto 2 will be 100 times faster than the current edition. You can try an early beta, but as of now it only does HTML output and can't run code yet.
It'll be "about a year of work" before Posit advises users to move to Q2, @cscheid.net told #PositConf2026.

post posit::conf(2026) or my flight isn't for another six hours should I just go to the airport or try to explore 🤔 #positconf #positconf2026

@grrrck.xyzSep 17, 2026, 3:13 PM

The end of #PositConf2026 always sneaks up on me. So many conversations I wanted to have and didn't get to among so many other unexpected and fun conversations. If I saw you in passing or from across the room while sprinting to the next session, I really did mean to say hi. 👋 until next time!

Was great seeing so many peeps from federal agencies and state and local governments at #positconf2026. Open source data science is stronger than ever in #government. I’m always happy to chat if you want to talk more. #RStats #PyData #DataBS

@jeremy-data.bsky.socialSep 17, 2026, 2:28 PM

#RStats and #PyData peeps. Don’t fear IT at work. We’ll demo Package Manager (PPM) for your IT and their fear of the ecosystems will fade and open doors for you. PPM is your gateway to approved R and Python at work! Thanks to all at #positconf2026 who talked PPM with me. You got this!

posit::conf(2026) is outta here! 👋 From Wes McKinney's AI keynote to Quarto slides, Shiny apps, & termite colonies, Day 2 was radical.

Share your photos and reflections with the hashtag #PositConf2026 ❤️

See you in Seattle Sept 13-15 for posit::conf(2027). Until then, keep it real!

A speaker wearing glasses, a black t-shirt, and dark jeans stands on a brightly lit stage during a presentation. Behind him, a large textured wall is illuminated in warm orange light, displaying white text that reads "posit conf(2026)". The silhouettes of audience members are visible in the dark foreground.A crowded conference hall filled with people sitting at round tables during a lunch or networking session. Feather banners with numbers and the phrase "Birds of a Feather" mark different table sections throughout the room. In the foreground, several attendees are seated around a circular table with plates of food and drinks, engaged in conversation.A woman wearing a pink conference t-shirt and a man with glasses leaning over a small round table at an event booth. The woman is holding a smartphone and smiling while looking at it with the man. On the table sits an open laptop facing away from the camera, along with small promotional materials. In the background, a large dark blue banner displays branding for "Posit Assistant" and "Positron" along with the text "Work as fast as you think."

My #PositConf2026 was an accidental sequel to this 2019 @hadley.nz talk: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qne8...

He used the Design of Everyday Things metaphor, introduced {vctrs}, and admitted it might be too strict. That's why I made {stbl}. I hadn't seen this talk when I submitted my abstract! #RStats

@jonthegeek.comSep 17, 2026, 11:37 AM

I'll be stalking {stbl} a bit on CRAN and github, but please let me know if you use {stbl}, and if you find anything that could work more smoothly. And I guess it'd probably also be great to hear if you use it painlessly! #RStats #PositConf2026

@healthandstats.bsky.socialSep 17, 2026, 1:46 AM

This talk was so fun to give at my fav conference #positconf2026 and honestly if I can demystify anything for Kelly, I’ve outdone myself.

I’ll post the recording when it is available but for now, enjoy some slides
