Next up was Tim Astrop on the Brymbo Fossil Forest in north Wales. Amazing story of how an industrial site (iron works, then steel) was shut down in the 1990s, since converted into amazing fossil site and community and educational centre with great teaching role. #PopPalaeo

More belated #PopPalaeo content... Richard Fallon also spoke, on plans for an interesting study of 'fossil fandom', virtual worlds involving palaeoart, fan collections and such. A newly emerging world relevant to those of us involved in events like #DinoCon...

Belated #PopPalaeo content... my own talk was on how I used the blog Tetrapod Zoology (four iterations of it) to build a community that ultimately resulted in TetZooCon, this then being ancestral to our current, community-based event, #DinoCon. So, a historical overview of the TetZooniverse.

Next at #PopPalaeo is Liz Hide @themuseumofliz.bsky.social on engaging with deep time at the Sedgwick Museum. Museums can inspire the next generation, connect with underprivileged groups, promote the value of deep time science and more. Liz discussed a list of events and projects.

At the #PopPalaeo event today! Really informative and engaging talks - lots to think about re: how we tackle the various crises and challenges in the field of deep time science communication.

After my talk... I might share stuff on it later... next was Ruth Sidall on pavement geology. Interesting rocks and fossils are everywhere in architecture, paving, statues etc. Ruth keeps a database, showed numerous fascinating examples. ##PopPalaeo
