My phone just autocorrected clade to Claude so if anyone in the #popgen community needs me I'll definitely not be pouring sugar into the concrete at data center build sites! Coz that's illegal, and I don't do illegal things!

Out now – my (very first!) Masters student’s (very first!) paper on #popgen of an endangered marsupial, the western ringtail possum (ngwayir in Noongar language). Using genomics of >400 possums, we found sig. spatial variation in genetic diversity, connectivity, and genomic vulnerability. (1/9)

A ngwayir sitting in an urban tree outside a motel in the town of Albany, on the south coast of Western Australia. The possum is sitting in side profile, showcasing its small round ears, largely black body (with white underside) and long prehensile tail draping from the branch. Taken by me in June 2026 on holiday, at around 8pm.

This group is really useful to keep up to date with new papers in #PopGen and adjacent fields. ⏬️

🎓 Big day at the #UniversityofTartu #GI, as @kai-t2tte.bsky.social is defending her PhD.

Defenses r high-pressure, but she’s handling it with courage and focus.
Rooting for you, Kai—make us proud! 💪🇪🇪 #PhDDefense @unitartupress.bsky.social #researchineatonia #AcademicTwitter

Islands are amazing #biodiversity study systems. Here is our perspective on how they can be used as models for #conservation

Thanks to José and Maëva for their great leadership on this

🐋 New gray whale paper out! 🐋

Using whole-genome data from eastern and western Pacific gray whales, we reveal hidden ancestry and highlight the importance of gene flow in restoring genomic diversity following severe population bottlenecks 🧬

Disappointed by the lack of answers on Bluesky to this good question, any #PopGen colleagues willing to give an answer here?
