A Bee, black legs fixing it in place above the yellowish and nectar-rich centre of a purple Aster-type flower, its long tongue deep into the nectar-rich centre while the antennae probes for more goodies. The large, bulbous eyes in the black head are concentrating on the work. The insect has a honey coloured fuzzy upper body while the lower abdomen is black and white striped.

Wasps are in the garden so nows the time to watch out for any #Yellow-leggedHornets that may have survived MPI's eradication programme, and winter. Not just Auckland, any survivors may have hitched a ride out of town.

The neighbours have I think a ivy plant that grows over our fence.
There must be 30-40 or more bees, wasps and some bumblebees pollinating it.

I took a short video of it, it's a little hard to see what's going on but I got a good shot of a bumblebee at the end.
