#FridayFrocks - This gown, c.1953–57, is by Lanvin-Catillo. The chiffon bodice, with #Pleating, is lined with pink satin and boned. See it in our brand-new fashion exhibition: ‘Mid-20th Century Girls’ which opens tomorrow. To plan your visit go to www.chertseymuseum.org

Two-image montage of a Lanvin-Castillo evening dress from about 1953-1957 displayed on a mannequin against a plain light background. The full-length view shows a delicate blush-pink dress with a ruched chiffon bodice crossing over at the neckline to create a soft V-shape. The dress has short sleeves, a wide satin waistband tied into a bow at the front waist, and a flowing knee-length skirt made from layers of lightweight chiffon. The accompanying detail image focuses on the bodice and waist, showing the fine pleating of the chiffon, the lustrous satin sash, and the decorative bow. The overall design combines soft drapery and elegant mid-1950s eveningwear styling.

#FridayFrocks #Pleating – A dress, c.1845–55 of silk satin. The full skirt is cartridge-pleated to the boned bodice which allows the large volume of fabric to be incorporated neatly into the waistband.

Collage showing a mid-19th century silk day dress (c.1845-1855) on a mannequin. The gown is made from striped silk in shades of deep plum, burgundy and bright magenta, with a fitted pointed bodice, long sleeves and a full gathered skirt. Two detail images show the waist seam with cartridge pleating and the interior construction at the sleeve and skirt attachment.
