I am admittedly very biased here, but please take a look at pages 46-48 for info on a very impressive scientist (and my wife) Dr. Kathleen Mandt. She brings a refreshing dose of common sense and kindness to the science community. #planetsci #viper

The Martian Moons Exploration (MMX) spacecraft will retrieve two samples from Mars' moon Phobos, then bring them back to Earth for lab analysis. In a feature-length article, @squigglyvolcano.bsky.social previews the mission, due to launch on 20 Oct. ☄️🔭🧪🛰️ #planetsci

You are looking at the dunes of Endurance Crater, in this approximate true-color panoramic camera image, highlighting the warm reddish and golden dust present there. The dunes show sinuous sand formations that extend to heights of less than a meter.
Fine ripples texture the slopes, and the nearest sand in the foreground looks granular and close.

The real reason for the multiple Earth flybys of the (forgetful) ESA Juice spacecraft 😜.

4 panel comic -

[Panel labeled "April 2023". Earth is shown, and the JUICE space probe is flying away from it, with dotted lines showing its path since liftoff.]
    Mission Control: We have liftoff!
Mission Control: JUICE is en route to explore the icy moons of Jupiter!
    JUICE: Wheee!

[Panel labeled "August 2024". Two images of JUICE are shown, with dotted lines showing its path through space. One is to the left of Earth, the other to the right, and the path goes below Earth.]
JUICE: ...So which planet was I visiting again? I got distracted.
    MC: Jupiter!
    JUICE: Right, OK.

[Panel labeled "September 2026". Two images of JUICE again, this time the path goes above Earth.]
JUICE: Is Jupiter the one with all the rings? Or...
MC: No, the big one near it.
    JUICE: Got it!

[Panel labeled "January 2029". JUICE is approaching Earth from the left.]
JUICE: And which moons am I looking at?
Mission Control 1: Oh my God.
Mission Control 2: Now I get why we budgeted for so many Earth flybys.

Title text: "I did briefly visit Venus in August 2025, but I figured out the mistake on my own because it didn't have any moons."

Saturn is centered in the wide oval of its rings, on black. Half the globe is pure white, overexposed; a thin twilight line divides it from the dark night side.
The rings are beige, pale brown and dark brown, with many fine concentric bands. Saturn’s shadow cuts across them as a solid black wedge extending to the right.

Think you know Jupiter? In ultraviolet light, it can look like almost another planet.

Dark poles, a dark Great Red Spot, one bright oval that fades.

#Hubble reveals clouds and hazes the eye cannot see.

Jupiter sits big and round against black. This is near-ultraviolet, false color.
Bands run across the disk in cyan, pink and muted brown instead of the usual cream and orange. The poles look darker brown with slightly pinkish clues. On the left side of the planet a large storm, the Great Red Spot, is also dark rather than red. Just to its right a smaller oval that would look white in visible light is similarly dark. Farther right a chain of storms, the String of Pearls, stands out bright pink.A small round disk at upper left, off the planet’s limb, is Ganymede.
A thin credit line at lower right reads NASA, ESA, Hubble, Processing: Judy Schmidt.

Coming up tomorrow, ESA's Juice spacecraft will fly past Earth for another gravity assist!

I had the fantastic opportunity to help planning the JMC shots this time around. We're trying a bunch of new things with this camera, so I'm really excited to see how they'll turn out.
