Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BlueWater. Most of my bird friends swim in water that is every colour except blue, but this #PiedBilledGrebe has found the rare blue patch. Good for it.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #TheDivers. One of my favourite divers is the #PiedBilledGrebe, a little bird that will stake out a pond and systematically catch every fish in it. This one is very protective of its enormous sunfish.

The pied-billed grebe, a small brown duck-like bird (and one of my personal favorites) floats on blue water. The water is so still it acts as a mirror, reflecting the bird perfectly. There is a bit of green vegetation in the lower left corner.The double-crested cormorant is a charcoal colored bird swimming partially submerged im gray water. It has a bright yellow pouch before its hooked beak and a brilliant green eye. There are ripples around the bird, and blurry vegetation is visible on the bank in the rear of the photo.A male anhinga stretches its wings to dry them after a swim. The bird is black with some white accents. His yellow beak is long and sharp. The wind has ruffled the feathers on his head, giving him a bit of a faux-mohawk.
