Outside of current events and the most intense years of the Korean Conflict, I have limited knowledge of history of modern divided Korea, so looking to learn a little more.

I finished Nick Lipscombe’s “Wellington’s Guns” earlier in the week and found it a well-written and authoritative account of the organisation and command of British (and Allied) Artillery in the Peninsula and Waterloo campaigns.1/2

A hardcover copy of the book “Wellington’s Guns: The untold story of Wellington and his Artillery in the Peninsula and at Waterloo” by Nick Lipscombe.

The cover features a period painting of Royal Artillery gunners and a field gun being observed by an officer on horseback (Wellington himself?)

Yes, these highly decorated trinkets are real eggs. You could buy one of these at the Bakewell Show in the 1980s. Or maybe it would inspire you to have a go yourself, though you’d definitely need a delicate touch.

#PhotoFriday today is the Kyrle Hall, Sheep Street. Built in the late 19th century by Mr. J. Bowen to designs by Arts and Crafts architect, William Bidlake. Ref – WK/B11/3450 #LibraryofBham #Brumpic

A photo of a row of properties. A shop in the near foreground on the bottom right with people stood out outside. The largest property in the row is next - an impressive Arts and Crafts three storey building with a turret. A row of balcony windows below this and two bay windows beneath this. Two terraced houses at the end of the row.

#PhotoFriday OK, I think I have come up with a stumper this time, so I have included two photos. Name the BC winery.

This was my first time reading one of Robert Stern's books. I thought it was pretty good - solid writing, good use of primary sources, good selection of secondary sources, perspective from both Japanese and US sides.

Congratulations to #PhotoFriday winner Joshua Marion of Petawawa, whose first fly-in moose hunt with Jacob Dickerson, Mathew Dickerson, and Scott Laderoute via Ogoki Frontier was a success in WMU 16C. This bull responded to cow calls, creating an opening at 100 yards on opening morning.

On #WorldFarmAnimalsDay meet the Misses Robinson. Here they are at Ashover Show Ground in the1950s, with one of their prize-winning cows. By their smiles it looks like they’ve won another rosette to add to their collection.

Two smiling ladies in summer dresses and bonnets stand either side of a man wearing a suit and tie. The lady on the left holds the halter of a black cow with a number of rosettes around its neck.

A narrow passageway with buildings on either side. Above is an ornate iron sign - Ye Olde Royal Restaurant. Flourishes above each part of the sign with a crown on the very top of the sign. This lion at Chatsworth House has been on duty since 1823 so he deserves a nap. We hope he is having some sweet dreams. Better not wake him to ask though!
