Salamanders are beginning to seek out locations for #brumation, a state of rest similar to #hibernation, which helps them survive cold #winter weather. Many dig to find safety in the soil.

With fall underway and the colder months approaching, North American #beavers (Castor canadensis) are busy making sure their dams are strong, lodges are insulated, and food supply is abundant. 🦫
🐦⬛Dark-eyed #juncos are expected to begin their southerly flights from Canada to their overwintering grounds across the United States soon. Despite regional differences in appearance, look for a flash of crisp white tail feathers while in flight!
Out with the velvet, in with the antlers! ✨
Velvet, a soft tissue, surrounds buck antlers as they grow into strong bone. Around mid-September, velvet dries and begins naturally shedding, although bucks will often speed up the process by thrashing their antlers against vegetation.
