体質が弱く競走馬になれるのかと心配されるも成長するにつれ状態が良化し桜花賞を制しオークスでは敗れたものの
秋華賞では巻き返して見事二冠馬となった
その後は勝利から遠ざかるが引退レースとなったエリザベス女王杯で見事に勝利という大輪の花を咲かせて引退の花道を飾った

The genus name comes from the Greek phalaina ("moth") and opsis ("appearance"), coined because early botanists thought the broad, spreading blooms resembled tropical moths in flight.
