Fardon doesn't want to deal with this.

Early update since Xerian 2 is really complicated and this Pax Draconica page was quick and easy, so I'm swapping update slots this week.

The priest brushes off Fardon's concerns about whether Fisk should be at the temple at all.

Priest: "All of us are children of Alkrash, Sir Fardon. If your companions seek His mercy, and salvation from The Devourer, they are welcome here."

Fiskul: "Uh, ABOUT that..."

The priest is startled as Fiskul pokes their head into the doorway. He looks at them with a disapproving expression, as if someone with a forked beard and black cape had turned up to Mass.

Priest: "My child, that is an UNFORTUNATE look you have. If that is cosmetic, it is in very poor taste..."

Fiskul: "I've ALWAYS looked like this! May I enter...? I wish to pray to the Great One."

Fardon, feeling very awkward, deposits a coin on the offering plate and scurries away.
Fardon: (Dammit, I'm NOT dealing with THIS right now...)

Mermul looks at Fiskul with concern

Mermul: "Um... this is the house of the GREAT ONE. Can you even ENTER here? Wouldn't it turn you to dust or something?"

Fiskul: "Of COURSE I can!"

Fiskul demonstrates this by trotting into the temple.

Fardon and Mermul enter the grand temple to pray to the Great One. Fiskul trails behind somewhat. They are greeted by a priest, a grey frost dragon in robes.

Priest: "Ah, Sir Fardon. I have heard the news. The chapel is free, my son, and I shall pray for your spiritual atonement."

Priest: "Who are your companions, if I may ask? Do they also seek guidance from Our Father?"

Fardon: "This is Mermul, a refugee new to our realm. I am escorting him until he is properly settled."

Fardon: "And... there is also a stranger from the Disputed Lands. He has, um... UNUSUAL beliefs, Father. Perhaps he should not be here...?"

Fardon compares and contrasts his job with the world-eater's.

Fardon: "But, I pledged to serve and protect my lord and people, knowing that it would mean the spilling of blood. FISKUL had his role thrust on him UNWILLINGLY, so nobody can complain if he shirks his duty, especially when he does so to protect his friends."

Fiskul: "You have done your part, Fardon. It's in the claws of the gods now. While taking his life WAS regrettable, by doing so you've saved many more."

Fardon: "I am a dragon. We can fight our instincts, our desire for domination and the thrill of taking prey, but we cannot suppress it ENTIRELY. Logically, I know that the Hunter's execution was unfortunate but necessary..."

Fardon: "He was not even just a Hunter, but an anti-dragon cultist as well. But... actually taking his life... that... that was... ENJOYABLE."

Fiskul: "You feel guilty because you LIKED it... and you feel you must atone for... for being the way you were made? I DO understand, Sir Fardon... And I'm proud of you for it."

Fardon: "Thanks for your kind words, Fisk. I am not entirely sure what the blessings of the Evil One will do for my spiritual credit rating, but... thank you for understanding."

Fardon returns to the park entrance, where Fiskul the Devourer and Mermul are waiting.

Fardon looks a bit down, and Fiskul notices this.

Fiskul: "Are you alright...?"

Fardon: "It's part of my job. Sometimes we HAVE to do things we'd rather not have to..."

Mermul looks absolutely terrified at this

Mermul: "NO! NO!"

Mermul: "Don't say THAT to him! Remember what HIS job is! Don't give him ideas!"

Fardon looks at Fiskul, who seems amused at the notion

Fardon: "...True."

The guards lead the Hunter to the guillotine. He is strapped face-down, staring into the basket and the pile of sawdust nearby.

Sir Fardon's gaunleted hand pulls the release lever. In his final moments, the condemned manages to yell "DEATH TO ALL WOR-" before losing his head.

Sir Fardon: "JUSTICE... IS DONE."
