Are these amazing?! These are hairy pinesap, Hypopitys lanuginosa, a red counterpart to yellow pinesap, Hypopitys monotropa. They bloom at different times: Summer sunshine is the season for yellow. Fall maple leaves are the season for red. #parasiticplants #nativeplants #botany 🌿

The dodder, a parasitic plant choking my tomatoes as I speak…who would have guessed this is one of nature's genetic engineers, stealing DNA along with nutrients from its host.
