Also on ELSA #PaperDay, the ELSA work by Jurgen Popp featured in the @royalastrosoc's third Specialist Discussion Meeting on Machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to astronomy. Meeting summary: https://doi.org/10.1093/astrogeo/atag044

Also on ELSA #PaperDay we'd like to highlight our latest ELSA
@ec_euclid citizen science project, Artifact InSPECtor. Would you like to rummage space telescope data? #astrodon https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/artifact-pipeline/artifact-inspector

Also for ELSA #PaperDay : check out the AstronomicAL data mining tool from Grant Stevens https://github.com/grant-m-s/AstronomicAL - an interactive, plugin-based platform for exploring, labelling, integrating, and modelling scientific data

Next on ELSA #PaperDay : we're delighted to say that Ben Granett's fabulous spectroscopy tool GELSA is now on pypl - just install with pip install gelsa

Next in our ELSA #PaperDay is some nice work by Fabio Rigamonti, who predicted how VESPER at the future Extremely Large Telescope will show how galactic structures emerge and evolve. The paper's in a white book for a third-generation instrument on the ELT

comparison of physical size in kpc (from 0.1 to 10) against redshift (from 1 to 4), with the VESPER pixel size and selector field of view show, the JWST pixel size (larger than VESPER), the Re(z) from Ormerod et al. 2024, and the range where it observes the rest-frame optical (defined as 0.4-0.7 microns).

And Jurgen's third #PaperDay paper derived the physical properties of each clump, such as stellar mass, age, dust extinction and star-formation rate, concluding there's inward-migration of the clumps which formed in situ through violent disk instabilities https://arxiv.org/abs/2609.20079

Clump stellar mass function (cSMF) of the clump populations detected in the CLAUDS/HSC-SSP galaxy sample for different clump age bins.

That paper's at https://academic.oup.com/rasti/article/doi/10.1093/rasti/rzag051/8736045#570235757 . Jurgen's second paper in our #PaperDay looks at the cosmic evolution of these clumps, diagnosing the drivers of cosmic stellar mass assembly […]

Plot of clumpy fractions as a function of redshift published by various authors.

It's another ELSA #PaperDay! First up is a collection of three papers by Jurgen Popp. His first paper uses deep learning to detect star-forming clumps in
@ec_euclid data with Faster-RCNN

Clumpy galaxies, with clumps annotated as square boxes. The images of galaxies have a 10kpc scale bar.
