#OpenHardware

The OpenFlexure project is an open-source initiative focused on development of 3D printed, laboratory-grade digital microscopes and positioning stages, making high-quality microscopy accessible to all.

openflexure.org/

International collaboration between engineers and scientists who work with the OpenFlexure microscope shown as a comic happening inside of the Open Hardware logo, a cog that opens slightly at the bottom to the shape of a keyhole. In each panel is a pair of people busy at their desks. One from each pair crosses the panel boundaries to pass a tool to the next person. Others are constructing their microscopes or doing research using them. A git flow diagram runs along the cog, nestling in its teeth. Behind the cog is a colorful mess of curling cables, overlapping tools, roots, and splashes of water, referencing what the included scientists are working on which involved the microscope.

PUMA
Microscópio de código aberto impresso em 3DO PUMA é um projeto de sucesso, publicado
oficialmente no Journal of Microscopy.
[M]odular, [A]cessível.• Portátil: Totalmente portátil, compacto e leve.

LIFeling can be connected to external hardware delivering positive or negative current, allowing it to be stimulated much like a neuron in an electrophysiology experiment while its membrane potential is observed directly.

PUMA
3D Printed Open Source MicroscopePUMA is backed up by a peer-reviewed paper in the
Journal of Microscopy and designed for direct eye
observations and ultra-portability with advanced
options for digital imaging, measurements and
computer control.
PUMA is an acronym for:
[P]ortable, [U]pgradeable, [M]odular, [A]ffordable.• Portable: PUMA is totally portable. Not only is it
small and lightweight but it does not require
a computer, smart phone, camera or PC monitor
to operate.
• Upgradeable and Modular: PUMA can used as
a simple but high quality monocular microscope
with an adjustable mirror for illumination,
all the way through a trinocular scope with full
Kohler illumination and an augmented reality unit
for a HUD of its integrated computer.
• Affordable and Open Source: All aspects of the
PUMA are open source and not monopolised
behind paywalls and patents. It is designed to be
built by anyone with access to 3D printing and uses
fixtures and fittings available from retail outlets.

Is this thing on? Yup, it is.

Hello! We're bringing Open Robotics to Bluesky! We're relatively new here and would love some shares to help us find our people. Could you please oblige?

True open hardware remains an elusive goal.
After testing two #ARMSoM (#BananaPi) Single Board Computers powered by #Rockchip System-on-Chip processors, Moreno Razzoli (Morrolinux) highlights their capabilities and the challenges still facing #openhardware.

We're now selling Mothbox Pro kits in the UK and EU. 🦋

It's an open-source light trap from @dinalab.bsky.social that photographs every insect that lands on it. 20% of profits go back to them.

Batch 1 is small and we'd love your feedback.

What happens when promising hardware meets the reality of #openhardware?

Moreno Razzoli (Morrolinux) tested the ARMSoM Sige5 and P2Pro, looking at AI acceleration, #Linux support, #IoT connectivity, power efficiency, and limitations. See what he found: lpi.org/fx74

If you are a neuroscientist, educator, student, maker or hacker interested in how these worlds can intersect, come and talk with us in Rome.

We suspect there will be quite a lot to discuss.
