Rice is harvested on a farm in rural Japan. A series of terraced rice fields travel from the foreground to the background of the image, like rolling waves. Golden sheaves of rice have been hung up to dry on wooden racks, while further on, figures continue the harvest. At the far end of the image, thatched-roof farmhouses stand close together, tucked in beneath tall dark trees.
